FANTASTIC FOREST – 24.10.2025
Tremble and shiver! Halloween is arriving a few days early again this year, thanks to an unholy alliance between the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF) and the municipality of Vorst/Forest. On Friday, October 24, they are organizing a film screening at the Centre Jules Verne, formerly known as the Roma neighborhood cinema.
From 6 p.m. on the dot, you can enjoy a drink and a snack. A sake tasting by Land of Sake will get you in the right mood for a Japanese film. And please, don’t be put off by the strange characters who may be hanging around the entrance!
The event is free, but reservations are recommended as places are limited!
About the film:
Did someone say “zombies”? Yes, the evening is dedicated to our favorite jerky-moving undead with a strong culinary preference for human brains…
“One Cut of the Dead” is a Japanese zombie film from 2017 that is difficult to introduce without immediately stumbling over spoilers. It begins with a film crew shooting a zombie movie in an abandoned laboratory where the Japanese army once conducted dark experiments on unfortunate fellow human beings. The actors are terrible, and the director walks away from the set in despair. Moments later, the moans and screams miraculously sound much more convincing, and the zombies look lifelike (well, sort of). Overjoyed, the relieved director urges the crew to keep going, because it all looks so real!
I can already hear some of you sighing, “Oh no, a movie within a movie—how meta can it get?” Fear not! In his acclaimed debut, director Shinochiro Ueda masterfully misleads you by juggling worn-out clichés and surprising twists. It was enough to capture the audience award at the BIFFF in 2019.
Happy Halloween!
