The world depicted by Nemanja Ceranic in his epic SWORD OF VENGEANCE is anything but pleasant. The devastating nuclear disaster may be behind us, but it has certainly not improved the table manners and general social skills of the survivors. The various clans that are out for blood do have one thing going for them. They sport particularly picturesque names. What to think of the Soaked, the Bloodheads, or the Poisoners? Such kick-ass names hold the promise of violence, and there is plenty of fighting in this epic filled with hatred, betrayal, cunning, terror, and a little bit of sex. The compelling plot runs on dust, iron, and sheer anger. Okay, it is a Serbian film… As for those spectators who dislike violence: you may enjoy a hearty dose of gusle, the traditional one-stringed knee fiddle whose sweet sounds brighten up many a scene!
