Airi has not opted for a simple and carefree life. Her job is to assist spirits who are unable to smoothly complete the transition from the world of the living to that of the dead. This happens when, at the time of passing, a person is burdened with too many worldly concerns. The resulting “lingering spirit” usually causes quite a lot of trouble. Airi is called to help an old lady who lives in a wooden house that looks like it was transported straight from the set of THE SHINING. There’s no frantically typing Jack Nicholson here, but there is a very persistent spirit who not only fails to respond to Airi’s rituals, but also threatens her. Airi has to dig deep into her bag of tricks to stay in control of the presence from the other side, and begins to develop a dark suspicion that the world of the living is not as benevolent as the natural beauty around her seems to suggest. NEVER AFTER DARK is a wonderfully atmospheric supernatural thriller.
