After watching FEELS LIKE HOME, no one will blame you if, come next Christmas, you view the people gathered around the table with a healthy dose of suspicion. We meet Rita, who is clearly not having her best day. She gets fired from her job at the shoe store, where things were already quite grim. Arriving home, she gets kidnapped in broad daylight. She regains consciousness in a shabby room, in the presence of a strange man who claims to be her brother. He insists her name is not Rita, but Szilvi. Little by little, Rita realizes that it is best to go along with the seemingly random rules imposed on her. Her “brother” tells her that if she behaves well, she will be allowed to meet the rest of the family, and who knows, maybe even Papa himself! You could consider this film an allegory of modern Hungarian society. But you could just as easily enjoy it as a powerful thriller that shows how twisted (real or imagined) families can be!
