de begeleiding van drie ervaren filmmakers

Under the title BIFFF PARTICIPATIFFF, the festival is organizing several cultural participation and education activities. A first section consists of workshops in which three groups of youngsters from Brussels with no or little film experience make a fantastic short film under the guidance of three experienced filmmakers: Joanne Mitchell, Stéphanie Joalland and Anders Klarlund. They can also count on the help of Belgian special effects specialists such as Squidlab and the HELHa GC Academy. The results of the workshops will be screened at BIFFF on Thursday, April 17, at 4:30 p.m. We’ll also screen two shorts made by young Uruguayans in the context of a workshop that the BIFFF and BIF Market co-organized with ACAU and Air Europa.

Then, secondly, we’re also putting together three special screenings aimed at audiences that are more difficult to reach. For example, during our Born After… Scary Movie Day, on Thursday, April 10, we will host a screening of 2073. This docu-fiction paints a bleak picture of the future in which the seeds of evil – given current events – are being planted today. The screening will be followed by a conversation between Oscar-winning director Asif Kapadia, three associations – Rise for Climate, BRAL and 11.11.11 – and those with hopefully still the most future ahead of them: youngsters! A second screening will take place in collaboration with the festival Elles Tournent. On Friday, April 11, we will co-present Fury, followed by a panel discussion on the world seen through the eyes of women. And we don’t forget our senior audience with the screening of The Grandson on Tuesday, April 15, followed by a conference on cyber security, in collaboration with the Brussels Ouderenplatform, Samen Toujours and Digibeet.

Joanne Mitchell

Joanne Mitchell heeft meer dan één snaar op haar gitaar: producent, regisseur, scenarioschrijver, actrice, toneelactrice en on air… Ze begon haar carrière op het kleine scherm met de Britse soap EMMERDALE FARM. In 2011 richtte ze samen met haar man, Dominic Brunt, het filmproductiebedrijf ‘Mitchell-Brunt’ op en schreef en regisseerde ze vele korte films en speelfilms (BAIT in 2014, ADULT BABIES in 2017, SYBIL in 2018). Dit jaar komt ze naar het BIFFF om haar film BROKEN BIRD te presenteren en is ze een behulpzaam persoon voor aspirant-regisseurs tijdens het participatieve BIFFF!

Stéphanie Joalland

Stéphanie Joalland is regisseur en scenarioschrijver voor langspeel-en kortfilms. Haar film ICE werd vorig jaar vertoond op de BIF Market en won zelfs de TENTOO-prijs ! Ze werkte ook samen met Luc Besson aan de animatieserie VALERIAN AND LAURELINE in 2006 en haar film THE QUIET HOUR staat op Netflix. Stéphanie Joalland is ook medeoprichter van Frenzy Films, een filmproductiebedrijf.

Anders Ronnow-Klarlund

Anders Ronnow-Klarlund doet ons de eer om voor zijn drieënveertigste editie terug te keren naar het BIFFF als gast voor het participatieve BIFFF. Geboren op 28 mei 1971 in Fodt (Denemarken), werkte hij eerst bij een radiostation en werd daarna tv-producent; Hij regisseerde zijn eerste langspeelfilm THE EIGHTEENTH, waarmee hij veel verschillende prijzen en internationale reputatie won. Hij regisseerde vier afleveringen van het Deense tv-programma TAXA en is ook bekend van STRINGS (2004) en POSSESSED (1999). Na een lange tijd weg te zijn geweest, hadden we in 2022 het genoegne om opnieuw scenario’s van Anders Klarlund te zien, met AMOUR ENTRE ADULTES en LE DERNIER PATIENT.
