Jean, a nostalgic old tailor, makes Jeanne, his sickly wife, work on dresses that are out of fashion. Terrified to see himself grow old, he can’t stand mirrors anymore. One night, while his dying wife is in bed, Jean is overcome with a consuming nostalgia and dresses Jeanne in her wedding dress—one of his first creations. The next morning, Jean finds his wife as a young bride by his side… dead. Mad with grief, Jean soon realizes that Jeanne’s skin has fused with the fabric of the dress. He decides to cut up the flesh dress and places his wife’s flayed body in a boat that disappears into the mist of the marshes. Back in his workshop, the flesh dress inspires Jean to create a new, magnificent and monstrous dress that is very successful with clients. Night after night, Jean sees his Jeanne return as a young bride to die in his bed. The new skin dresses inspire new designs, and Jean regains his success and vitality. He even begins to rejuvenate… but soon the miracle turns into a curse.
