The Basque mountains, in the 17th century. While Spain continues to grapple with Torquemada’s inquisitorial legacy, a young woman named Kattalin flees her hovel in the middle of the night after attempting to poison her violent husband. Lost in the forest and pursued by an ominous presence, she eventually stumbles upon three women engaged in washing their unmentionables in a conveniently located stream. The strange trio takes advantage of this unexpected encounter to crack a jug of moonshine and exchange gossip about the locals. The gossip starts out innocently enough, but becomes increasingly frightening, and disturbingly close to Kattalin.
