Presales ended, tickets available on site

2004, the Kentucky suburbs. Spencer and Warren are bored. Aside from finals in college, endless YouTube clips and frat parties, they feel like they miss out on the things that make life exciting. After visiting a library in Transylvania (in Kentucky, not in Romania), they’re introduced to a rare and precious book, “The Birds of America” by John James Audubon. They’ve finally found a new hobby: robbing libraries! Not that they have the required skills, but nothing that can’t be fixed by binge watching every heist movie available at the local video store. When two childhood friends join the fun, they prepare for the most thrilling event in their lives. Or so they think…

After the mysterious and dark THE IMPOSTER (BIFFF 2013), that already explored the limits between reality and fiction, director Bert Layton presents his newest gem. Introduced as “This is not a true story. This happened”, AMERICAN ANIMALS is a mix between documentary-style interviews with the real criminals and a classic heist movie. Unanimous verdict: Layton’s second feature absolutely gets it right again.
