Eladio is an honest-to-God, hard-working man. An irreproachable man that is minding his own business. Unfortunately Eladio is living in the Andalusia of the early 70’s, a region ruled by unscrupulous landowners, with Franco’s shadow still looming large over its arid landscapes. Yet under the punishing sun, he labors on together with his wife and son as the guardian of an enormous hunting domain. Never once has it but occurred to him to wander off the beaten path… until now. The temptation comes in the form of the devilish Don Carlos, who has slyly obtained more parcels for the big annual hunt than is legally allowed. But he’s willing to pay Eladio a handsome amount of pesos if he simply looks the other way. Just this once. He’s always been such a goody-goody, but now he thinks, what the heck! Director F. Javier Gutierrez already gladdened our black little hearts with BEFORE THE FALL at the BIFFF 2009, before leaving for Hollywood to shoot RINGS. His return to Spain results in a sultry film where rugged landscapes form the backdrop for a tale of exploitation, manipulation, corruption, and revenge. With an emphasis on the latter…
