Day and night, Agnès has been toiling away at the final chapter of her book series “The Kingdom of the Wind”, a realm inhabited by all sorts of fantastic creatures plagued by the evil wizard Sirocco and his terrible storms. To no avail, she can’t seem to put anything on paper. Then suddenly, the door bells rings! It’s her friend, she’s dropping off her two little rascals, 5-year-old Juliette and 8-year-old Carmen, for the weekend as agreed. What? Oh yeah, sure I didn’t forget! Or maybe a little… Well, kids, can you go play in the living room for a bit while aunt Agnès does a quick power nap? Quite a difficult task, especially for Duracell bunny Juliette! Bored out of her mind she flips through one of her aunt’s book until suddenly a strange little creature falls out and starts scolding them. But, but… that’s one of Sirocco’s magical toys! With a piece of chalk said toy starts drawing up a portal on the floor to return to his homeland, but Juliette begs him to take them along on the trip. That’s how Juliette and Carmen, transformed into cute cat girls – “Oh yeah, the passage can have side-effects”, the toy says -, find themselves in the wonderland that Agnès has invented. There, they’re to have many adventures which will end up in the lair of the villainous Sirocco…
Miyazakian magic that has swept away everything on its way, from the prestigious animation film festival Annecy to our friends at Anima and the Jeugdfilmfestival in Antwerp, where this Dutch version of the film premiered in February. A whirlwind of emotions that’ll doubtlessly steal the hearts of our youngest as well as our oldest BIFFF-goers. No English subs though!
