Hidden within the deepest cesspools of France lies the independent state of Groland, a free haven for the last of the Mohicans that champions independent thinking, preferably of the racist, xenophobic or sexist kind, or all of the above. Not progressive but pro-Trump. A land of milk and honey with the Holy Trinity of Vulgarity, Alcoholism and Criminal Inanity. But also a land that doesn’t attract enough foreign investment in a time of economic crisis, according to Groland president Emmanuel Micron. That’s why a Grolandian delegation is heading to the BIFFF this year, armed with a couple of reels of propaganda film to entice potential Belgian film crews to come and shoot there!
Groland is a satirical cult program, created by Benoît Delépine and Christophe Salengro, which started airing on French private television channel Canal+ in 1992. Their typically subversive humor, which lampoons French and international current affairs, is a perfect match for the BIFFF! Chances are you’re not yet familiar with Groland, but know that your fellow French-speaking BIFFF-goer has been following the show for decades, or may even have grown up with it. That’s why they’re coming to Brussels though, because even non-Frenchies – Steven Spielberg, Michael Bay, you! – are welcome to invest their sorely earned money in Groland! Besides dough, you’ll also need an advanced level in coarse French because even we didn’t have the guts to subtitle it in English… but hey, it’s free!
